Just walking into a home improvement store inspires this passionate do-it-yourselfer, who once built an entire wall-to-wall bookcase in a weekend while several months pregnant with her second child. The bookcase, now filled with how-to books and her kids’ toys, still stands as a testament to how much Emmaniece loves to work with her hands and the great amount of satisfaction it gives her.

A Passion for DIY

A fast learner by nature, Emmaniece is one of the rare people who can figure out how to put something together just from looking at an illustration. Analyzing the Possibilities

Originally from Haiti, Emmaniece was raised in Miami and attended the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, where she received her Associates degree in fashion illustration with plans to become a designer and instructor. However, after moving to New York to pursue this career, she ultimately decided she needed a more secure livelihood. Emmaniece then enrolled at Bernard Baruch College to pursue a business degree while working for Citibank. After relocating to Maryland, she enrolled at Columbia Union College and attained her business degree. Drawing on her great listening skills, analytical talents and upbeat enthusiasm, Emmaniece later took on the role of senior tax analyst for Discovery Communications, the same company that produces many of her favorite do-it-yourself TV shows.

These days, when this thoughtful professional isn’t hard at work helping her clients with their investment decisions, she loves to read mystery novels and watch forensic science shows or any history program on the Medieval times. Emmaniece also participates in the local PTA and many other school activities her children are involved with. But perhaps her most unique interest is very old trees. Emmaniece has been known to stop and admire an ancient-looking tree line, imagining the history and information each one holds.
